AIS Course Descriptions

Are you wondering which AIS course is best for you? The following information provides a detailed description of the current AIS courses offered to potential registrants.  Although the descriptions have been provided, AAAM highly recommends you consult with your institution/employer to confirm which course is the best option for your individual needs prior to completing the registration process.

The most current version of AIS is the AIS 2015 Dictionary.  AAAM will continue to support the AIS2005/2008 Update Dictionary, however, training frequency for the AIS2005/2008 Update version are limited.

AIS15 Onsite Course

Duration: Two (2) consecutive days, eight (8) hours each
Class Hours: Determined by the host
Prerequisites:

  • Minimum of 6 months (1 year or more suggested) experience working with AIS either in a trauma registry or coding of injury cases
  • Basic anatomy course or equivalent
  • Basic medical terminology course or equivalent

Equipment Needs: Projector, screen, microphone, classroom-style set-up with no more than two (2) people per six (6) foot table.
Materials: All materials are available within the learning platform. The student has the choice of obtaining a copy of the digital AIS2015 Dictionary or a hardcopy.
Facilitator: AAAM Faculty
Successful Completion:  Must pass post-test with 70% or better
Cost: $750.00 USD per/person

AIS15 Virtual Online Course

Duration: Four (4) days, four (4) hours each
Class Hours: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time Zone (unless otherwise noted)
Prerequisites:

  • Minimum of 6 months (1 year or more suggested) experience working with AIS either in a trauma registry or coding of injury cases
  • Basic anatomy course or equivalent
  • Basic medical terminology course or equivalent

Equipment Needs: Participants must have a webcam and microphone capabilities as active participation in discussion is required
Materials: All materials are available within the learning platform. The student has the choice of obtaining a copy of the digital AIS2015 Dictionary or a hardcopy.
Facilitator: AAAM Faculty, via a webinar platform
Successful Completion:  Must pass post-test with 70% or better
Cost: $750.00 USD per/person

AIS15 Online Course

Duration: One month duration with four (4) hours a week live classroom session via a webinar platform
Class Hours: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Central Time Zone (typically Thursday and Monday)
Prerequisites:

  • Minimum of 6 months (1 year or more suggested) experience working with AIS either in a trauma registry or coding of injury cases
  • Basic anatomy course or equivalent
  • Basic medical terminology course or equivalent

Equipment Needs: Participants must have a webcam and microphone capabilities as active participation in discussion is required
Materials: All materials are available within the learning platform. The student has the choice of obtaining a copy of the digital AIS2015 Dictionary or a hardcopy.

AIS08 Virtual Online Course

Duration: Four (4) days, three (3) hours each
Class Hours: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central Time Zone (unless otherwise noted)
Prerequisites:

  • Minimum of 6 months (1 year or more suggested) experience working with AIS either in a trauma registry or coding of injury cases
  • Basic anatomy course or equivalent
  • Basic medical terminology course or equivalent

Equipment Needs: Participants must have a webcam and microphone capabilities as active participation in discussion is required
Materials: All materials are available within the learning platform. The student has the choice of obtaining a copy of the digital AIS2005/2008 Update Dictionary or a hardcopy.
Facilitator: AAAM Faculty, via a webinar platform
Successful Completion:  Must pass post-test with 70% or better
Cost: $750.00 USD per/person

AIS15 Update On-Demand Course

Duration: On demand available for one (1) month
Class Hours: No formal classroom sessions
Prerequisites:

  • Must have successfully completed an AIS08 course within the last five (5) years. (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, or 2022)

Equipment Needs: Participants must have a webcam and microphone capabilities as active participation in discussion is required
Materials: All materials are available within the learning platform. A digital copy of the AIS2015 Dictionary is provided. *If you prefer a hardcopy of the Dictionary, it can be purchased separately in the AAAM online store.
Facilitator: AAAM Faculty can be scheduled for a one-hour (1) Q&A session to review any AIS15 Update content that was unclear during the on-demand learning period
Successful Completion:  Must pass post-test with 70% or better
Cost: $380.00 USD per/person (Includes 1 hour Q&A session with faculty based on posted availability)
