AIS UPDATES

AAAM’s Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) was proud to exhibit at the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) Annual Scientific Meeting and Training held in November.

TQIP is part of The American College of Surgeons (ACS), a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded to improve the quality of care for the surgical patient by setting high standards for surgical education and practice.

We had an amazing turnout with both our AIS15 Update Course and AIS15 and Injury Scoring: Uses and Techniques Course filled to capacity. It was a dynamic 2 days of learning lead by our expert team of AIS faculty members. Special thanks to the American College of Surgeons for hosting another smooth and successful annual conference.

We are currently offering the AIS08 course as an online educational opportunity each month and are working to make the AIS15 course available online in early 2018. Be sure to check out the Course Schedule & Registration page on the AAAM website to locate and register for available 2018 AIS courses. Please contact the AAAM office if you are interested in hosting an AIS08 or AIS15 course at your facility and we’d be happy to work with you on securing arrangements!

AIS UPCOMING EVENT

IRCOBI and AAAM team up on AIS Course in India for 2018

The International Research Council on Biomechanics of Injury (IRCOBI) group and AAAM are collaborating to provide an introductory course on the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS).   IRCOBI provides scientific conferences and training courses focusing on injury causation and protection systems.  The IRCOBI conference is an important venue to review new knowledge on human tolerance to impact derived from field accident studies, experimental research, and experience from occupant protection systems and devices.   The training of AIS at an IRCOBI conference is a perfect marriage for the mission of IRCOBI as AIS serves as the preferred instrument for describing injury and ranking injuries by severity for injury prevention.

The introductory AIS course is being made available to conference delegates of IRCOBI at their biennial conference that will take place on April 25-27, 2018 in Lonavala, India.  The course takes place in conjunction with the conference on April 25, 2018, and is limited to 50 participants on a first come, first serve basis.   This special offering will be taught by the AIS International Technical Coordinator and Course Director Kathy Cookman with additional instructor support from JP Research India Pvt. Ltd.  The course will provide participants with a unique training opportunity designed for IRCOBI India.  It will teach students the fundamentals of AIS2015 to include learning how to code sections of the dictionary according to established rules and guidelines.  This course will include hands-on coding of relevant case studies identified from local cases in India.
