Gary Smith

Our Annual Conference is quickly approaching and I’m eager to share with you some exciting updates on what we have in store for you. For the first time, we have keynote speakers for all three days of the conference. We have a great lineup of subject matter experts and a stellar program that is designed to pique every disciplinary interest. To kick off our conference, Michiel van Ratingen will present on New Frontiers in Vehicle Safety: From Vehicle Crashworthiness to Automation on Monday. Next up, Shawn Marshall will dig deeper into behavioral studies with his presentation on Candrive Prospective Older Driver Study: Progress towards the development of an Older Driver Risk Stratification Tool on Tuesday. Capping off our sessions on Wednesday will be The Honorable T. Bella Dinh-Zarr presenting on Before, During, and After the Crash: Advancing Safety at the NTSB. There are plenty of networking and mentorship opportunities available at the conference that I’m sure will lead to valuable connections. We are ready for an exciting several days as we seek to learn more about innovative ways to champion road safety and eliminate road traffic injuries worldwide. I look forward to seeing you there!

As we wrap up this business year and prepare for the upcoming one, I would like to reflect on some of our accomplishments this past year. AAAM has seen a renewed surge of activity from the launch of our newly designed website to our participation in activities during Global Road Safety Week. Through our social media campaigns, we have had the chance to engage with members and spark conversations. Our passionate involvement for road safety has been at the forefront of all of our initiatives, including a partnership with Road to Zero, organized by the National Safety Council. Our AIS and marketing teams have launched several campaigns for the live AIS courses and continue to work diligently to advance this valuable resource worldwide.

As we look to the future, we have some projects in the pipeline that will continue to move our organization forward, invigorate committees and increase engagement of membership globally. We are reviewing alternatives to expand educational offerings for members outside of our annual meeting, increase collaboration with other organizations that share our mission, and increase our involvement in public policy. A major focus is the expansion of our AIS products and education globally.

While we are on the subject of the future of our organization, this will be my final INROADS message to you as President of AAAM. It has been my honor to serve you in this capacity. I have enjoyed interacting with you and seeing our organization grow. I’m leaving you in the very capable hands of our incoming President, Joel Stitzel, who will continue to drive our mission and organizational growth during the next two years. Finally, I would like to thank the Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and Members, and Bostrom for their contributions, dedication, and commitment to ensuring that AAAM remains true to its legacy.

If you support AAAM’s mission and are not currently a member, connect with us by joining AAAM. Please feel free to contact us with your feedback. We want to hear from you.
