AAAM honors the legacy of B. Tilman Jolly, who passed away in April at the age of 64.
- Tilman Jolly first joined AAAM in 1995 after years of involvement in traffic safety, emergency preparedness, and vehicle safety engineering. In the 1990s, he led a group of experts to provide recommendations relating to injuries caused by airbags to the National Highway Safety Administration. The resulting recommendations reassured the public of the benefits of airbags and spurred on a national campaign to transport children in the rear seat. Established as an expert in automotive medicine and safety, B. Tilman Jolly was elected to serve as AAAM President in 2005.
Beyond AAAM, B. Tilman Jolly brought his expertise in emergency preparedness to a variety of other areas like the National Football League, the Department of Homeland Security, and more. In 2006, he helped to establish the office of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and later, as CMO, he led the DHS team that produced the National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza. During the pandemic, he led the federal government’s Telemedicine Work Group of the Health Care Resilience Task Force and assisted the COVID-19 response for multiple federal financial regulatory agencies and a major metropolitan school district.
